and we LOVE them!
These first three pictures are from a ride Griff, Dad and I took on May 25. It was so beautiful! And so fun to get out on the horses and enjoy an early mountain ride. The leaves were just coming out on the trees, and we were riding through snow as we gained elevation. There is just something so invigorating about being on a horse and riding in the mountains. I rode Chief, Griff rode Baldo, and Dad rode Coltrain. All three are awesome horses.
Exactly one month later (June 25), my family headed up American Fork Canyon again to enjoy fishing, paddling around in Matt's new canoe, and riding the horses. Look at how green it got in just one month! There is still snow on the mountain peaks, though.
I loved the background of this picture, but I also wanted to zoom in so you could see my Mom and Dad better. Don't they look so good on their horses? Dad's on Coltrain and Mom is on Chief.
We didn't catch much. The water was SO murky from the crazy run-off from all the snow this year. So maybe the fish couldn't see the lures? We resorted to bait, and while we were waiting, Dad was playing with Colt. They were enjoying each other so much. Dad would kiss his neck, and our little Colt would dissolve into giggles. I took a bunch of pictures to capture this precious moment, and I couldn't help including most of them. I just love these two.
Isn't Colt's dimple the cutest thing you've ever seen? I love this picture!
While Griff was riding with Amy and Matt, Dad and I took Wesley and Jack out on the canoe. They loved it. And Dad and I had fun paddling around, and then drifting, and then paddling some more again. I think it will be a blast to catch some fish from this boat sometime.
These two stole my Fresca right after we got into the canoe. Then they proceeded to take a swig and pass it back and forth until it was gone. It was pretty cute to watch them share, even if I had to give up my pop!
Before we trailered the horses, Jack, Wesley and Logan got turns being led around on the horses. These little boys are cowboys in the making! It makes me happy watching them loving the same things we do.
On July 2, we had a breakfast up the canyon! We used to do this on the 4th of July every year when we lived in Sandy growing up. It was fun to keep the tradition going with our little boys. Mom went on a "hike" straight up the side of the mountain with the little boys. They sat at the top together like this for a little while. So cute.
Jack and Wesley had a blast jumping off this rock to either Griff or Amy. Those are two crazy little boys. Do you see the big bruised lump on Jack's forehead? Wesley and he were throwing rocks at a tree trunk. Jack got bonked on the head when he got in the line of fire. Actually he just got in the line of Wesley's wind up! Wesley was just cocking his arm back to throw, and Jack got wacked. Crazy, eh? It reminded me of Wesley's forehead when we went camping a couple years ago. He had a lump like that on his forehead that he kept bonking over and over and over all weekend. Poor little guy.
All of the pictures of Wesley were blurry except this one, dang it!
We looked over after breakfast was over and the boys had been playing for awhile to find them helping themselves to more pancakes. Love these boys.
Colt and Grandma
Griff and I found this Magpie nest on the road by our house. It fell out of one of our pine trees in a storm. It is the coolest nest. I took a picture with the little boys to show how big it really is.
The outside was made up of sticks, then the middle layer was a mud nest. Finally, there was a soft nest in the middle. Isn't it cool?! I do NOT like magpies. They dive bomb us during nesting season, and they are loud and chase all the pretty birds away. But I will give it to them that they can build a sweet nest! Haha.
